At the moment, development of sugar industry, as well as of other branches of industry, tends to increase of unit power of plants. It is evident, that this allows to reduce specific expenses for unit of production, as well as heat and power consumption expenses. On the other hand, implementation of energy saving techniques, power engineering schemes and equipment also reduces specific power consumption. However, reduction of specific expenses for power consumption lags behind reduction of specific expenses for heat consumption. Partially, it could be explained by the fact that, at the same time, the process of mechanization of technological operations with connection of new and new electrical drives takes place, and it impedes total reduction of specific expenses for electric power consumption.

If keeping existing park of energy-power equipment, these tendencies, in the end, lead to unbalance in power generation by heat generation plant and power consumption by the sugar mill. In that case, the enterprise is forced, in addition to the electric power, generated by heat generation plant of the sugar mill, to buy electric power from the power supply system by much higher price.

Pulp dryers are a good solution of this problem. In that case, it is required to install electric power generating facility. As a power drive for it, gas turbine, gas diesel or spark combustion engine can serve.

Operation scheme of the complex, consisting of gas turbine and pulp dryer

Spent gases from turbine or engine are directed to fire chamber of pulp dryer. Because spent gases from power unit have high temperature (from 400 to 6000С), heat introduced to fire chamber will allow to reduce fuel consumption for drying.

If comparing operation of pulp dryer when working using recirculation scheme with that in complex with cogeneration facility, in the last case, fuel consumption for pulp drying is less by 45%. A the same time, total fuel consumption for dryer and gas turbine unit will increase by 15.6 %; at that, 3482 kW of additional electric power will be obtained
