After diffusion, exhausted cossettes to be sent for drying are subjected to pressing on presses. Because mechanical method of moisture removal is cheaper than drying, efforts are aimed at reaching the highest concentration of dry substances in pressed pulp.
| Extent of exhausted cossettes pressing depends on process capacities of presses, available at sugar mill, degree of their loading, beet quality, content of beet marc, quality of beet cossettes, as well as on a set of process parameters of exhausted cossettes, arriving after diffusion (temperature, acidity, pulp content, sugar content). Because degree of concentration of dry substances in pressed pulp, sent for drying for different sugar mills, varies from 12 to 30 % of dry substances. If deep-squeezing presses are available at sugar mill, concentration of dry substances in pressed pulp is equal to 23-26%.
Approximate consumption of equivalent fuel for pulp drying (in case of pressing and drying of all exhausted cossettes obtained), depending on degree of squeezing, are given in Table 1. |

Measures taken for increase of degree of press squeezing, first of all, include measures for optimization of operation of diffusion compartment. In case of deviation of beet quality from the standard value, additional measures for correction of process showings are taken.

The "Teplocom" Company implements the full cycle of works on delivery, installation, commissioning, adjustments, maintenance and operation of the pulp presses that perform "deep" pressing, in order to provide maximum efficiency of the press operation in the plant's process chart.
This equipment provides for the following:
- dry substance content in the pressed-out pulp – 25-30%;
- efficient increase of productivity of extractors;
- better quality of pulp press water;
- improved cleaning effect during diffusion;
- consumption of condenser water for condenser feeding only at start-up;
- increased productivity of pulp-drying section;
- lower self-cost of the dry pulp (due to lesser fuel spent on pulp drying).
